Specialist frangipani grower in Matakana
A tree that is easy to grow and maintain and that produces gorgeous flowers with an amazing bouquet; who can say no?
The Matakana Frangipani team started growing frangipani plants from cuttings gifted by family and friends around 2014. Some of their mother plants (what their cuttings come from) are now well over 2m high.
Friends loved the frangipanis as they did, so they grew more. As well as growing in height, the number of trees also grew considerably, so now they have frangipani plants ready to sell.

Why choose to buy from this frangipani grower?
What sets Matakana Frangipani apart from the large chain store nurseries is not just the outstanding pricing, but the exceptional quality of the plants. Each frangipani on offer is robust, resilient, and guaranteed to bloom in vibrant, fragrant glory in the right conditions.
The plants are nurtured in their tunnel house. Grown from cuttings that have flowered with meticulous care, these beauties have grown more quickly and are stronger and taller than outdoor plants of an equivalent age.
Did you know that seed grown frangipani plants (what most NZ large chain store nurseries sell) will take a minimum of 2 – 3 years to flower, but also can take considerably longer up to 10 years, or worst case scenario never.
They are approximately one and a half to twice the height and have a wider trunk, so they have a fantastic start, making them easily transplantable.

We guarantee blooming good plants.
You may not know…

More is more
Why is the number of branches important? Because more branches mean more growing heads and therefore more flowers. Frangipani flowers grow in clusters like bouquets on branch tips from late spring through autumn, depending on your climate and the important positioning of your frangipani.
Growing frangipani from a cutting
These frangipani plants are propagated by rooting cuttings. As they have the exact DNA as the parent plant, they are guaranteed to produce the same flower. Grow from seed and this is left to chance. Growing from a cutting also produces flowers at a considerably faster pace than if the plant was grown from seed.
Cutting-grown plants will flower in the first year of growth. Seed-grown plants can take 3 to 5 years to flower and even up to 10 years in some cases.
Low maintenance magnificence
Frangipani care is easy as long as you can meet its needs for warm sunshine. Plant in a north-facing area, and do not water too much – one drink a week over summer is enough – and you’ll enjoy this spectacular, tropical plant in your home for many years. If possible, plant your frangipani in front of a house wall or solid fence that heats up during the day: your plant will be in frangipani heaven.
Transplanting your frangipani
Take special care when handling the root system. Frangipani love free draining soil, so if planting in the garden, make sure this is your gardens soil type, otherwise ask us about this. If planting in a pot, a 50/50 mix of perlite and potting mix gives them a great start.
Growing troppo in Aotearoa
The beautiful flowers, set against exotic, large green leaves will add a touch of tropical splendour. Group them with palms, sun-loving ferns, bananas, hibiscus, bromeliads, yucca, and other tropical beauties for outstanding combinations of shape, colour, and texture.
